Edge sits at the western edge of the grid, on top of 30 Hudson Yards above the rail yards at 34th Street, and its position does something the Midtown decks cannot. It stands outside the skyline rather than inside it. The tower is far enough west that the city presents itself as a wall to the east, the Empire State Building and One Vanderbilt rising over the rooftops with Midtown stacked behind them, while the Hudson runs the full length of the western view and Hoboken, Weehawken and Jersey City sit directly opposite. Look south and the river carries the eye down to the Financial District. Central Park, well to the northeast, is a thin distant strip from here.
The deck is a triangle cantilevered off the 100th floor at 1,131 feet with nothing beneath its point. The glass walls stand nine feet high and lean outward by 6.6 degrees, which sounds trivial and is not: leaning into that slope puts your weight over open air with the glass carrying it. Set into the deck is a 225-square-foot glass triangle looking straight down to the street, and outdoor steps climb from the 100th floor to the 101st for the highest standing point.
Being open-air is both the appeal and the limit. Nothing stands between you and the weather, so wind is constant and the deck runs noticeably colder than the street. Above it, City Climb, which opened in November 2021, sends harnessed climbers up the outside of the building to a platform where they lean out over the drop at 1,271 feet.

30 Hudson Yards is a supertall commercial skyscraper on the West Side of Midtown Manhattan in New York City.
