Irving Plaza's building opened in 1888 as Irving Hall, later hosting Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie hootenannies before becoming a rock venue in 1978.
The main floor is standing-room with a wraparound balcony above, so the balcony is where to go for a seated view over a packed room.
