The read Upper East Side in short

The Upper East Side is an affluent neighborhood home to Museum Mile, Central Park, and luxury shopping. Museum Mile's nine institutions along Fifth Avenue (82nd to 110th Streets) have thrown a joint open-house festival every June since 1978. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, founded in 1870, anchors the Mile's southern end, while the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum occupies Frank Lloyd Wright's spiral building at 88th Street, opened in October 1959, six months after the architect's death. East of the park, the side streets keep rows of prewar apartment houses and townhouses that give the district its residential character.
