The read Astoria in short
Astoria is known for its Greek heritage, diverse dining scene, and Museum of the Moving Image. The village was founded in 1839 by fur trader Stephen Halsey and named for fur magnate John Jacob Astor in a bid to attract his investment. Steinway & Sons has built pianos on the same Astoria property since the 1870s, and Astoria Pool — opened in 1936 as the largest of eleven pools the Works Progress Administration built across the city that summer — remains the largest swimming pool in New York City.
