Jamaica is Queens' major transit hub: the Sutphin Blvd-Archer Ave-JFK Airport subway station (E, J, Z) sits beside the LIRR's Jamaica station and connects directly to AirTrain JFK. Downtown Jamaica is home to York College. History runs deep here: King Manor in Rufus King Park was the home of Rufus King, a framer and signer of the U.S. Constitution and an early antislavery advocate, who bought the property in 1805; it now operates as a museum. American retail changed on Jamaica Avenue too — in 1930 Michael Cullen opened King Kullen there, recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as America's first supermarket.
