Concourse

The Grand Concourse neighborhood around 161st Street is home to Yankee Stadium. The 161st Street-Yankee Stadium station (4 train at all times; D most of the day; B on weekday rush/middays) sits right outside the ballpark and is the busiest subway station in the Bronx. The boulevard itself deserves the name: opened in November 1909 to a design by French-born engineer Louis Aloys Risse and modeled on the Champs-Élysées, the Grand Concourse runs about five miles at 180 feet wide, lined with 1930s Art Deco apartment houses. A few blocks north at 165th Street, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, founded in 1971, has occupied a converted synagogue on the Concourse since 1982.
