The read Stapleton in short
Stapleton is a historic waterfront neighborhood with Victorian architecture, a diverse community, and the shuttered Paramount Theatre, closed since the 1980s. It also owns a stranger distinction: the Staten Island Stapletons, an NFL franchise, played here from 1929 to 1932 at Thompson Stadium, a wooden-bleacher field whose site is now occupied by the Stapleton Houses, and their halfback Ken Strong went on to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Staten Island Railway's Stapleton stop keeps the neighborhood a short ride from the St. George ferry terminal.
