Sunnyside sits along the elevated 7 train, about 15 minutes from Midtown. North of Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside Gardens — built 1924-28 as one of the first garden-city developments in the country — is a National Register historic district of brick rowhouses around shared interior courtyards. South of the neighborhood sprawls Sunnyside Yard, completed by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1910 as the largest passenger-coach rail yard in the world; it still stages Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, and NJ Transit trains bound for Penn Station.
