The read Throgs Neck in short
Throgs Neck has no subway service; the Bx40 and Bx42 buses connect it to the rest of the Bronx. The Throgs Neck Bridge (opened 1961) links it to Queens across the East River, and NYC Ferry added a stop here on the Soundview route in December 2021. At the peninsula's tip, SUNY Maritime College — founded in 1874, the oldest maritime college in the United States — occupies Fort Schuyler, a granite fortification built between 1833 and 1856 to guard the East River approach to the harbor; the college has been based there since 1938, and the bridge now passes directly overhead.
