The read Bay Ridge in short

Bay Ridge sits at Brooklyn's southwest corner, at the foot of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to Staten Island. The R train ends here at Bay Ridge-95th Street; a rail deck on the bridge was studied in 1956 and rejected on cost, and a separate Narrows rail tunnel begun in 1923 was abandoned. When the Verrazzano opened in 1964 it carried the longest suspension-bridge main span in the world, a title it held until England's Humber Bridge opened in 1981, and since 1976 the New York City Marathon has started at its Staten Island foot, sending the field pouring into Bay Ridge's streets each November.
