Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy) is a historic neighborhood of brownstones with a deep African-American heritage and a growing arts scene. Restoration Plaza on Fulton Street, rehabilitated in 1972 from a former Sheffield Farms milk-bottling plant, is home to the nation's first community development corporation, founded in 1967 by Robert F. Kennedy and Jacob Javits.
